ARAS & Beyond Blue

Aged Rights Advocacy Service and Beyond Blue speakers made presentations to us this month. It was wonderful to hear about how ARAS assists seniors to access and interact with the community or residential aged care service providers. In addition, Beyond Blue’s speaker shared his personal story to improve our awareness of Depression, Anxiety and Suicide.

Ann's birthday

One of our lovely Participants, Ann celebrated her 91st Birthday this month. It was a joy to celebrate it with her as she had a quiet 90th due to the isolation required last year because of the Coronavirus. Happy Birthday Ann. We love having you join us each week and are so impressed with your progress on your iPad.

Guest pianist

Our Social Work Student, Krystal, played the Piano for our Singalong recently. She practiced the specific songs our Participants enjoy for

weeks in preparation. Our Seniors attending our Program find time with us assists with feelings of loneliness and isolation, depression & pessimism. We LOVE helping improve their Quality of Life by giving a sense of belonging in a supportive social environment.

Just for laughs

joke text and laughing elderly lady

My grandson saw the empty toilet paper shelves and asked, “does this mean everyone will start using Pull-ups?”. I replied, “It ‘depends’ “.

Isn’t it scary that doctors call what they do “practice”?

“Did you see Mrs Smith’s face when I told her she didn’t look a day older than her daughter?” “I didn’t notice Mrs Smith, I was too busy watching the expression on her daughter’s face!”

Care & Share auction

An Auction was held at Care and Share this week. Staff collected items we thought our Participants would appreciate and our Auctioneer sold them accepting beads for money. Much fun was had when a bidding war ensued.

It’s Activities like this that provide a much-needed escape from day-to-day life and contribute to our Seniors enjoyment.
